Swap your driving test with another learner
Want an earlier date, a different time or a centre nearer home? Find a learner whose test suits you better, agree a day to call, and each of you calls DVSA to make the swap. Listing your test is free.

How it works
-
Add your test
Tell us your test centre, date, time, test type and how many changes you’ve used, and upload a screenshot of your booking. We check it before other learners can see your slot.
-
See who you could swap with
We show you how many learners you could swap with under DVSA’s rules, for free, before you pay anything.
-
Swipe and match
Say yes or no to slots that work for you. When you both say yes, it’s a match, and you each have 24 hours to accept.
-
Plan your calls
Agree a weekday to call DVSA and who calls first, using ready-made messages. You never need to share your phone number or other personal details.
-
Call DVSA on the day
On the call day we show each of you the other’s booking reference. The first learner calls to request the swap, and the second calls the same day to complete it. DVSA recommends the second call is made by 4pm.
-
Swap done
DVSA sends you both a confirmation email. You keep your own booking reference and take the other learner’s date, time and centre.
DVSA makes every swap, by phone only, on 0300 200 1122 (option 2), Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. If the second learner doesn’t call by the end of the day, the request expires and DVSA won’t tell the first learner. DTSwap reminds you both and helps you plan another day.
Who can swap
DVSA only allows some swaps. We check these rules both ways before we show you a slot, so you only see swaps DVSA should accept.
-
The same test type
For example, a weekday test for a weekday test, or evening and weekend for evening and weekend.
-
A change left each
Each booking allows 2 changes, and a swap uses one.
-
A centre you’re allowed to move to
Your own centre, one of the 3 nearest centres on DVSA’s list, or the centre you first booked at.
-
Enough notice
The swap must be requested at least 10 full working days before the earlier test. Monday to Saturday count; Sundays and public holidays don’t.
Check with your driving instructor that they can make the new date, time and centre before you swap. DVSA won’t make the swap if either of you fails the security checks, if the details you give don’t match, or if either test changes after the first call. In that case both tests stay as they were.
Safe by design
-
You stay in control of your booking
DTSwap never contacts DVSA and never logs in to the booking system. Only you can change your test, so you make the call yourself.
-
We never ask for your licence number
Never give another learner your driving licence number, theory test certificate number, address, phone number, email or card details. DVSA doesn’t need them from each other, and neither do we.
-
Booking references are protected
Your booking reference is stored encrypted and shown only to the learner you’ve matched with, on your call day.
-
No open chat
You plan your calls with ready-made messages, so there’s nothing to overshare.

Questions
Is DTSwap part of DVSA?
No. DTSwap is an independent service. It isn’t run by, connected to or endorsed by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) or GOV.UK.
Does DTSwap change my test for me?
No. Only you can manage your booking, so you and the other learner each call DVSA. DTSwap helps you find a swap, agree a call day and get everything ready.
What do I need for the call?
Your driving licence number and booking reference, the other learner’s booking reference, the date, time and centre of both tests, details of any previous tests, and the card you paid with (not needed if your instructor booked before 12 May 2026). DVSA will never ask for your full card number or security code.
What if the swap doesn’t go through?
Both tests stay as they were and your test goes back in the feed, so you can match again.
Can my instructor use DTSwap for me?
No. Since 12 May 2026 only learners can manage their own bookings, so you need to sign up and make the call yourself.
How do I cancel my membership?
Any time from your account. If you joined in the iPhone or Android app, cancel through the App Store or Google Play.
